JPG
Best for photos and broad compatibility
JPEG creates compact, widely supported files and offers a quality control. It cannot store transparency, so FileIvy warns first and fills transparent areas with white only when you choose JPEG and continue.
PNG
Best for transparency and lossless output
PNG preserves alpha transparency and uses lossless browser encoding. Because a browser PNG export has no meaningful visual-quality control, FileIvy does not show a misleading PNG quality slider.
WebP
Modern compression with transparency support
WebP can produce smaller photographic files and preserve transparency when the browser supports reliable local encoding. FileIvy probes the returned file type and offers WebP only when the encoder genuinely creates WebP.
Dimensions and metadata
Format changes; pixel size does not
The original oriented width and height are preserved. This tool does not resize, crop, or rotate. Conversion re-encodes the image and normally removes EXIF, GPS, comments, profiles, and other source metadata.
Specialist inputs
Heavy decoders load only when needed
AVIF uses native decoding first. HEIC / HEIF, TIFF, and AVIF fallbacks are lazy-loaded locally only after FileIvy detects the format. Still GIF, BMP, ICO, and safe self-contained SVG use browser decoding. Animated and multi-page images are rejected instead of silently losing frames or pages.
